Thanksgiving Week Camp

Science Experiments and technology — plus seasonal maker projects and play. Three days. Two sessions a day. Book what you need.

SteamLabs Kids Thanksgiving Mini-Camp: Week at a Glance
Each day has two independent 3.5-hour sessions, AM and PM. Kids can book one or both, and nothing repeats within a day. Every session follows the same rhythm: a hook demo, a whole-group movement game, two hands-on stations that groups rotate through, a showcase, an hour of free play, and a closing review circle.

Day 1

AM: Power Up! (Electricity)
Kids find out that electricity only flows around a complete loop. They light up a mystery Energy Stick and turn the whole group into a human circuit.
Lab: Squishy Circuits. Kids light LEDs through salty dough, cause a short circuit, and fix it with sugar dough.
Take-home: a buzzing toothbrush bristlebot with an on/off switch.

PM: Mix It Up! (Chemical Reactions)
Kids learn to spot the four signs of a reaction: bubbles, a color change, a temperature change, and a new solid. It starts with a turkey bag that fizzes and puffs up.
Lab: Potion Lab. Red cabbage juice turns pink for acids and blue-green for bases, and dry powders only fizz once water is added.
Take-home: Fall Harvest Slime, where kids adjust the activator to make it stretchier or firmer.

Day 2

AM: Stubborn Stuff! (Inertia)
Kids discover that objects resist changes in motion, starting with a tablecloth yanked out from under a mini Thanksgiving dinner.
Lab: Crash Test Lab. Clay passengers fly off toy cars until kids add rubber-band seat belts.
Take-home: a Turkey Top, a spinning top kids test by moving its weights to change the spin.

PM: Under Pressure! (Vacuum and Air Pressure)
Kids learn that air pushes on everything. A marshmallow monster puffs up in the vacuum chamber and shrinks when air rushes back in.
Lab: Vacuum Chamber Lab. Kids predict what happens to shaving cream, chip bags, and more when the air is pumped out.
Take-home: a Turkey Diver, a Cartesian diver that sinks when you squeeze the bottle.

Day 3

AM: Lift Off! (Flight)
Kids learn how wings make lift and meet the four forces of flight. A paper wing climbs two sticks in front of a fan.
Lab: Flight Test Lab. Kids use launchers for fair tests of how bending the wing flaps changes a plane's flight.
Take-home: a Turkey Wing Glider, a folded paper plane kids decorate and trim to fly.

PM: Gobble Gobble! (Sound)
Kids learn that sound is vibration, starting with a mystery gobble that turns out to be a cup and a string.
Lab: Sound Lab. Kids try cup phones, which only work with a tight string, and make high and low notes on rubber-band guitars.
Take-home: a Gobble Cup turkey caller.
